On March 25th, Jeffrey S. Lehman, Executive Vice Chancellor and American Chancellor of New York University Shanghai, visited the Suzhou Energy Center and held discussions with Zhu Gongshan, Chairman of the Group. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on deepening school-enterprise cooperation, serving the "dual carbon" goals, and focused on the in-depth integration of "industry-university-research-application", scientific and technological innovation, talent cultivation and other fields, and reached a broad consensus. Vice Presidents Zhu Kun, Zhang Xi and other leaders participated in the discussion.
Jeffrey S. Lehman spoke highly of the outstanding contributions made by GCL Group in the green energy field over the past 35 years. He said that since its approval and establishment in 2012, under the care and guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, the Shanghai Municipal Government and relevant departments, New York University Shanghai has settled in Lujiazui Financial City in Pudong New Area and received help and support from all parties. As the first international university jointly established by China and the United States and an important part of New York University's global education system, with the full support of New York University and East China Normal University, New York University Shanghai has been actively promoting educational reform and innovation, creating a multicultural learning and living environment, and providing high-quality teaching, scientific research and public services for students and society, thus winning a good social reputation.
"New York University Shanghai is willing to give play to its advantages in international collaborative innovation, frontier basic research, and cultivating innovative talents with global competitiveness, strengthen the collaborative innovation of school-enterprise-industry-university-research-application, establish an innovative cooperation mechanism, and cultivate leading talents in the field of green energy science and technology," said Jeffrey S. Lehman.
Zhu Gongshan welcomed the visit of Jeffrey S. Lehman and his delegation and introduced in detail GCL's current strategic layout and forward-looking advantages in aspects such as technology, industry and internationalization. He said that GCL Group has always adhered to being driven by science and technology and led by innovation, possessing a number of industry-leading innovative technologies, having an integrated photovoltaic industry chain from materials, manufacturing to application and a lithium battery energy storage industry chain, and mastering a series of disruptive hardcore technologies such as CCz, anode and cathode materials, and supramolecular materials. Zhu Gongshan said that with the advent of the AI era, GCL's horizontal and vertical expansion in new energy and new materials cannot be separated from the support of high-quality talents. He hoped to have in-depth cooperation with New York University Shanghai and work together in talent cultivation and the integration of industry-university-research.
During the symposium, the two sides also had a heated discussion on topics such as ESG, artificial intelligence, advanced materials, and the cultivation of international talents. Zhu Kun introduced that in the future, the two sides will carry out in-depth cooperation in three aspects. First, by leveraging the frontier achievements of New York University Shanghai in the field of chemical analysis and combining with the research directions of GCL's Global Silicon-based Research Institute in the field of materials, jointly establish the New York University Shanghai - GCL Talent Research Center to deeply integrate talent cultivation with project research and development. Second, by taking advantage of the influence of New York University Shanghai, explore cooperation in ESG-related fields. Third, focusing on GCL's overseas development in the future, build a deep exchange platform for cutting-edge new energy technologies between China and the United States through New York University Shanghai to jointly contribute to the global green energy development.
